The ISSDC, NSBR, SSBA and TSSR have all announced the Shiloh Shepherds receiving Top Honors with their organizations. Each organization has their own rules and regulations on how points are earned, tabulated and earned—please see their respective websites to find out more.

Brk Chapls Tempted By Delyla, cgc, graduates Summa Cum Laude!

We recently received this bit of news from Rhonda Van Emon of Brick Chapel Shilohs. They're honorary ISSDC NE Region members as they don't have a group that covers their region, so we're pleased to share her news! Brk Chapels Tempted by Delyla, Brick Chapel's latest addition, is from their own Konrad/Fina litter born May 2008. We left the message in tact as sent as we thought it was a lot of fun!

Lyla graduated from basic obedience this week at the top of her class. As an honor student, she stated that she had to study very little for their silly test. She felt that a 1 minute sit stay and 3 minute down stay were not challenging enough for her shiloh self. She was amazed that the only other classmate that made it through both tests was her Visla pal and fellow honors grad. Lyla also stated that had it not been for older kids misbehaving in the adjacent ring she would have graduated with a 98 rather than a 97.5.

Lyla will be taking the rest of December off to play with her new sisters and brothers. She plans to start training them as soon as they figure out how to stand up. In January she will return to class with Boxer gal pal Greta, notably not honors ranked due to above stated distractions. Lyla's prior accomplishments include graduation from Puppy College, 1 Best in Show Jr Puppy, 1st place in her first Rally-O competition, and CGC at 5 months of age. She would like to thank her mother and father as well as brothers for their encouragement in her career.

Cooper Hospital names Shiloh Shepherd Tylor 2008 Therapy Animal of the Year

We want to send out a big CONGRATULATIONS to Tylor Brenner on being selected the 2008 Therapy Animal of the Year at Cooper University Hospital in NJ. This is the first Pet Therapy Award given by Cooper Hospital and Planetree Organization.

Barb McCarty, Head of the Child Life Department, introduced Tylor and Ellen at the award ceremony held in early October. Ellen has volunteered at Cooper for many years and started the Pet Therapy program at Cooper in 1997 with her dog, Julie. Tylor and Ellen visit Cooper Hospital every other week to make their rounds. Ellen says that "Tylor, the gentle giant, loves everyone he meets and basks in the attention he receives from staff, patients and parents. He can work a crowd, making sure that no one has missed an opportunity to love him."

Ellen shares she was very nervous having to give a speech to such a large crowd of people. But, somehow, talking about her boy made it easier and she was able to provide some anecdotes of Tylor's therapy adventures. Ellen admits she was fidgeting and swinging her arm back and forth; with no cajoling Tylor put his paw up to touch her hand, "You should have heard the collective "ahhhhhhhhh" in the audience," shared Ellen.

Ellen was so honored and excited by the support she and Tylor received at the award ceremony. All the people from the Child Life Department came to support them, as did many people from the hospital who came out when they heard Ty was going to be honored. "Tylor was outstanding and showed off his stuff and why he's amazing at what he does," says Ellen. "It was an outstanding experience, one I will never forget."

Ty, Beloved BT Tylor of Shenandoah, calls Beloved Shilohs home and is owned by ISSDC NE members Ellen and Murray Brenner. Tylor was bred by Shenandoah Shilohs and is from the Kota/Trinka litter born on Valentine's Day 2004.

I admit I'm biased; Tylor and Ellen are part of my Shiloh family as my Hamish is Tylor's brother, but we are so proud of Tylor and Ellen regardless. She, and Ty, have given so freely of themselves to bring a bright spot to those in some unfortunate circumstances. We wish them many more honors, but we also know they would do therapy work without any accolades as long as it was helping someone.

Master Supreme Champion Sage

We recently learned that ISSDC NE member Shiloh — Sage, GV NS brCH Beloved Zoey's Legacy of Frack, CGC, TT, TD; has obtained the title of Master Supreme Champion with the NAKC (formerly Rarities) show organization. Sage is the seventh dog of any breed to achieve this honor and the fourth Shiloh Shepherd. What an honor for sure.

Sage is the first Shiloh Shepherd to attain this title who is "owned by, bred by and handled by" his owners Ellen and Murray Brenner of Beloved Shilohs in NJ. Although Sage only shows once in a while, he was able to achieve this honor and we are so proud of him. To watch Ellen and Sage in the ring together you can't help but see his devotion to her. They have also achieved GV status with the TSSR and #1 National Select for the ISSDC for the 2007 show year.

Sage was Ellen and Murray's pick puppy from Beloved's Noah/Zoey litter born in March 2005. Ellen was drawn to Sage from the start but they almost kept a different puppy as she felt it had more of a showmanship personality. Ellen, however, just couldn't let the "sage" ribbon puppy she had fallen in love with over their eight weeks together go, and Sage joined the Beloved family permanently. Ellen shares she just feels "He is as beautiful inside as outside and loves all people and all dogs." Sage has recently sired his first litter and now shares his home at Beloved with his son Finn, as well as his mom Zoey, Tylor and Doberman Gabe.

Grand Champion Kodiak

Congratulations to GRCH biCH Duke Kodiak of Babbling Brook, CGC, TDI; for earning his NAKC Grand Championship. Kodiak has been picking up Grand Championship points but finished his Grand Championship at the July 12/13 NAKC Fort Mott Classic with an exciting BOB and Group 4 finish, handled by Debbie Cherubin.

Kodiak's owners, ISSDC NE members John and Monica Popaduke of Kindred Spirit Shilohs in NY, couldn't be more proud of their Shiloh boy. Kodiak was the reason they began showing and now they can't imagine not doing it. Earning Kodiak's Grand Championship means more to them then they could have imagined. Kodiak's recent BOB and Group 4 placement was thrilling for Monica. "Wow, what a great birthday present that was for me," shares Monica, "there were so many awesome Shilohs in the breed ring, what a thrill!"

ISSDC NE Member Shenandoah Shilohs proud breeder of first NAKC Hall of Fame Dog

We are excited to send Congratulations to Shiloh Shepherd Brodie for not only being the first Shiloh Shepherd to have earned a place in the NAKC Hall of Fame, but for being the first dog of any breed to earn the honor. This is so exciting for his owners, The Grieves family of Midnight Shilohs, his handler Suzy Graham of Tantara Shiloh Shepherds and his breeder ISSDC NE member Patti Schaefer of Shenandoah Shilohs. This is no small feat to achieve as Brodie had to beat 10 Master Supreme Champions to earn the honor. Until recently a Master Supreme Championship was the highest CH awarded by the NAKC and at the present time there are only a select handful of them. Brodie was only the second Shiloh Shepherd to earn his Master Supreme Championship title with NAKC (formerly Rarities) and the fifth dog all around to achieve the title.

Brodie has excelled in the conformation ring since puppyhood, starting his career as the ISSDC 2006 Puppy of the Year; 2006 #1 Puppy in Group, #2 Puppy all around and #4 dog in Group for the RBCSWO (Rare Breed Club of Southwestern Ontario); as well as the NSBR #1 Top Dog for 2006. 2007 brought more success as Brodie was honored with double GV awards earning GV status with the ISSDC and the NSBR as well as being named the #1 Top Dog for the RBCSWO.

"Brodie's success could not have been obtained without the help of his handler Suzy Graham," explain his owners, the Grieves family. "She brings out the best in him and he absolutely enjoys being in the ring with her."

But on top of Brodie's impressive show career he is a total family dog. The Grieves go on to share, "We have to thank his breeder Patti Schaefer of Shenandoah Shilohs for him, and he is an absolute gem to have in our home. He has a laid back attitude which fits in well in our family. He loves our girls very much and can often be seen upstairs on a bed looking out the window waiting for them to come home from school. He also gets along very well with our other Shiloh, Meeka (Ocean State's Bonnie wee Lassy)."

Thank you to ISSDC NE member Patti Schaefer for breeding such a great Shiloh and for his owners, Robert and Sue, and handler, Suzy, for bringing out the best in him and showcasing the breed in such a positive way.

New NAKC International Champion, Chase!

Congratulations to new NAKC [formerly Rarities] International Champion Chase. Chase earned his International Championship after only two show weekends, finishing at the Brookville event. His owners and ISSDC-NE members, the Verderrosa family of NJ, are extremely proud of their boy and credit him and his breeder with getting them hooked on attending shows. "I have never shown a dog," explains Mary Anne "but Val said he was her show pup and well, my husband and I love going to the shows now."

Chase, Babbling Brook's Chase the Bullet, was bred by Babbling Brook Shilohs in PA and is one of eight Saber/Xena puppies born on December 27, 2006. Mary Anne just fell in love with him as she watched the puppies grow on the Babbling Brook website but he had already been spoken for. So she watched from afar, and as fate would have it he became available and Mary Anne jumped at the chance to bring him home.

Mary Anne describes Chase as a very sweet and loving boy who loves people, loves to play with his Shiloh "brother" Lobo and loves his toys. He likes to lie on the couch and look at Animal Planet while at home and Mary Anne says he just takes her breath away when she watches him in the ring with handler Daniel Rosa. "When I saw Daniel working with Chase, who was not trained for the ring, I stood back and couldn’t believe that was my pup, he looked amazing," shared Mary Anne.

2007 NSBR TD — Top Dog Haley

Bay Breeze Shilohs, ISSDC-NE members Janet and Larry Biersack of Forked River NJ, is home to another NSBR 2007 Top Dog in their girl Haley. brCH.TD CJ-Bay Breeze Here comes Haley "Haley" is owner handled by her "dad" Larry and Janet relates Larry and Haley have a very "special" relationship. Janet notes Haley is a wonderful girl but is attached to the hip with Larry. Janet goes on to jokingly describe Larry and Haley's "special" relationship, "Haley enjoys spending her time with Larry and is very well behaved. She goes with Larry everywhere all off lead. But believe me, she is like living with the other woman in Larry's life. They are that close. I have no doubt she would save his life with no questions asked if need be."

Haley was born on May 31, 2003; bred by Judy Vaneman of CJ's Shilohs. Haley is a Luke/Rachael female sporting some well-known names in her pedigree. Haley came to Bay Breeze Shilohs by way of Chary Pack of Hilltop Shiloh Shepherds and Janet and Larry are very grateful to have been able to welcome Haley into their home.

Haley is both a Rarities/NAKC International Champion as well as a Breed Champion. And now she has also earned the title of top dog from the NSBR for 2007. Janet and Larry are very proud they have been able to achieve this award with Haley and really wish to thank Judy and Chary for trusting them with their beautiful and loving girl.

Some of Haley's favorite things include her kiddie pool and her kitten K.T., yes it is Haley's kitten. And although K.T. is now two years old she still curls up with Haley every night to nurse. Haley truly loves her kitten.

First Shiloh Shepherd NAKC Master Supreme Champion — Bismarck!

We want to celebrate and send our congratulations to Bismarck, GV NSx5 abrCH G&T's Semper Fi of Mason-Dixon CGC, TT, TDI; and his family on his recent NAKC (formerly Rarities Inc.) achievement. Bismarck is the first Shiloh Shepherd to earn the title of Master Supreme Champion from the NAKC show organization.

The NAKC instituted this new level of achievement at the start of the 2008 show season and Bismarck is not only the first Shiloh Shepherd dog to achieve this honor, he is also the second dog in the NAKC organization as a whole to achieve it. As of this writing there are only four dogs who have achieved this level. To earn this title the dog must already be a Supreme Grand Champion with the organization and must defeat 15 Supreme Grand Champions.

Bismarck is owned by Gary & Traci Runyon of Stardust Shiloh Shepherds in PA. Bismarck was bred by Lisa Leilich, Mason Dixon Kennels and is out of their 2002 Artie/Tuesday breeding. Bismarck has really shone in the breed conformation ring, earning titles from several show organizations, his registry and breed club. Bismarck holds titles from American Champion all the way up to Master Supreme Champion with NAKC; he's an ARBA Champion as well as ARBA Master Champion; has his breed Championship and holds several NS titles with both the TSSR and the ISSDC breed club. He was the TSSR GV for the 2006 show season.

Even with all these accolades, he is really just one of the family at Stardust Shiloh Shepherds, taking their two new additions — his nieces Cinder and Razzle — under his wing. Gary and Traci hope therapy work is now in Bismarck's future whilst he is enjoying his retirement from the conformation ring.

We want to congratulate brCH TD Bay Breeze Misty Morning "Misty" on her recent Top Dog award from the NSBR for the 2007 show season. Misty earned her breed and Rarities/NAKC championships by ten months old and now her Top Dog award and all before her second birthday. Misty is owner handled by her "dad" Larry.

Misty is a lovely girl owned by ISSDC-NE members Janet and Larry Biersack of Bay Breeze Shilohs in Forked River, NJ. Misty is out of their 2006 Storm/Maggie breeding born on July 19. Janet claims Misty stole their heart as the puppies were growing up and they just HAD to keep her. I'm pretty sure there wasn't any arm-twisting done, however.

But we'll let Janet tell you about her "little princess":

Our girl Misty Morning! What can I say, she is very special to us here at Bay Breeze Shilohs. She is everything I have hoped she would be. She has done extremely well in the show ring but is so much more than just a show dog, she is my princess and companion and the light of my life. There is never a dull moment here with Misty.

Misty lives life to the fullest while at home. She loves to run and is very high energy; we sometimes think she is a greyhound the way she races around our yard. We would love to try some herding with her in the near future. Misty also loves to swim and enjoys putting her head under the water; I just wish I knew what she was looking for.

We have hopes of breeding Misty and will be doing her health testing in July after her second birthday. But for now we are just enjoying our beautiful girl.

So thank you Judy for honoring Misty with her Top Dog Award; but we think all Shiloh's are Top Dogs. Congratulations Misty, way to Go Girl.

A Hall of Famer

Congratulations go out to Takoda — Supreme Grand Champion arbCH Tantaras Takoda Cloud Dancing, CGC, TDI — who was recently awarded the New Jersey Veterinary Animal Hall of Fame award. What an amazing achievement for Takoda, a five year old Shiloh Shepherd, and his owners Cindy & Ken Schleifer of New Jersey. Takoda was nominated for the award by his vet — who calls him an "ambassador of goodwill" — and earned it with all of the hard work Cindy and Takoda have done. As a team they have volunteered countless hours of their time, doing 2-4 therapy visit sessions a week since 2006.

Takoda has excelled in other areas, Takoda was one of the top dogs in the rare breed show ring when he was actively showing, achieving the #3 Top Rare Breed Dog [of all dogs showing with Rarities that year] with Rarities/NAKC in 2004.

Although Takoda excelled in the show ring, Cindy feels the work he's doing in his retirement is what he was born to do. "He just lights up when we enter a nursing home/ rehabcenter/ assisted living facility," says Schleifer. "He is a natural and was born to do this job. The patients just love when he visits, and the smiles on their faces, make me proud and happy that I'm able to share my special dog with all of them."

Takoda was adopted by the Schleifer's in 2003. He is out of the December 2002 Hammer/Hunter litter bred by Suzy Graham of Tantara Shiloh Shepherds. It is with Cindy and Ken that Takoda excels at his most important job, as friend, soulmate and constant companion.

Congratulations Kodiak!

Today our spotlight is on Kodiak, proudly owned by the Popaduke family of Kindred Spirit Shilohs in Hawthorne, NY. Kodiak, Duke Kodiak of Babbling Brook, was bred by Valerie Jones of Babbling Brook Shilohs in PA. Here are a few words about Kodiak from Monica.

Kodiak has far exceeded our expectations on so many levels. He began his show career shortly after he turned 6 months old. By the time he was 8 months old he had already earned his NAKC/RARITIES and International Championship. Shortly thereafter, it was confirmed that he also earned his Breed Championship. Currently, he needs 1 point to earn his Grand Championship and he is only 16 months old!

We OFA tested Kodiak at 13 months. Hips came back Excellent no DJD Elbows normal no DJD, Heart, Eyes, Thyroid, all normal. He is currently 16 months 100lbs and 28+ inches at the wither.

2007 SSBA Awards

The TSSR recently announced their GV/NS/Puppy of the Year awards for the 2007 show year and the ISSDC NE first wants to congratulate ALL the recipients but is also very proud to have several of our NE Shilohs represented!

Not only do the Shilohs who earn these titles have to excel in the show arena, they also need to have completed their breed championship, have health testing completed and passed, have earned Best of Breed or Best of Opposite show points, be registered with the TSSR and have submitted their win sheets to the show chair. Let's take a look at our Northeast representatives!!

Grand Victor
The 2007 TSSR Grand Victor is Beloved Zoey's Legacy of Frack (call name Sage) — handled and bred by Ellen Brenner of Beloved Shilohs located in New Jersey. Sage is from Ellen's first Shiloh litter at Beloved and is out of her 2004 Grand Victrix bitch Zoey, Beloved's Zodiac's Magic of CJ's. The litter, born March 28, 2005 was sired by P,B&T's New Beginnings of Sierra (call name Noah) an OTX1, owned by Ridgewood Shilohs (P&C, B&T). Sage won his first Best In Show at the 2007 Brookville event over Memorial Day weekend. Sage has not only been successful in the show ring but is also a therapy dog working with emotionally challenged children. Sage has recently sired his first litter with Misty, Betterways Misty Memory o'Zion, at Bearpaw Shilohs in New Jersey.

Grand Victrix
G&T's Calypso Sumr Brz Msn-Dxn (call name Caly) — bred by Lisa Leilich of Mason Dixon Kennels in Pennsylvania, owned by Gary and Traci Runyon and handled by Gary Runyon of Stardust Shilohs in Pennsylvania — has earned the TSSR Grand Victrix title for the second year in a row. Caly is also the ISSDC's 2006 Grand Victrix and took Best In Breed at the ISSDC National Specialty in Brookville last May. Caly is currently taking a break from showing and is enjoying motherhood as her first litter was born March 13, sired by Asgard-Samson. Caly is from Mason Dixon's 2004 Artie, a GV and NS in his own right, / Tuesday breeding.

National Select
Shelby, Mustangs Lmtd Edition V Sierra — bred by Susi Ramstead of Sierra Shilohs, owned by Carol Cernak of Mustang Shiloh Shepherds and handled by Suzy Graham of Tantara Shilohs and Amanda Opozda — resides in Westchester County, NY at Mustang Shiloh Shepherds. This is Shelby's first NS achievement in the TSSR. Shelby was the TSSR's Puppy of the Year in 2004 and I remember watching her at her first show, the 2004 TSSR Gathering, where she began her LARGE collection of ribbons and trophies. Shelby has done very well in the show ring and whelped her first litter of puppies in December 2006 with Twincedars Desperado, Jake, a Long Haired German Shepherd Dog OTX. Shelby's female pup, Jet, is the TSSR's 2007 Puppy of the Year following in her mom's footsteps. Shelby comes from Sierra Shilohs from the 2004 Hammer, a 4x NS himself, / Mirage litter.

Congratulations to Bismarck, G&T's Semper Fi of Mason-Dixon — bred by Lisa Leilich of Mason Dixon Kennels in Pennsylvania, owned by Gary and Traci Runyon of Stardust Shilohs in Pennsylvania and handled by Gary Runyon and Ron Williams — on repeating his NS achievement. Bismarck has quite the show accomplishments under his collar as he is also the 2006 GV and a 2005 NS for the TSSR as well as a 2006 ISSDC NS. Bismarck took most of 2006 off, only coming out for a few shows the entire show season. Bismarck sired his first litter this year with Savvi, Evadne's Savannah Raid the Wind. Bismarck is from Mason Dixon's 2002 Artie, a GV and NS in his own right, / Tuesday breeding.

Puppy of the Year
The 2007 TSSR Puppy of the Year also is an ISSDC NE member doggie. Jet, Mustang's Shelby's Cobra Jet — bred by Carol Cernak of Mustang Shiloh Shepherds in New York and Susi Ramstead of Sierra Shilohs in California, owned by Carol Cernak and handled by Amanda Opozda — is from Carol's first Shiloh breeding at Mustang Shiloh Shepherds, born in December of 2006. Jet's mother Shelby is a TSSR NS this year and was the TSSR Puppy of the Year in 2004. Jet had an outstanding show year and was named the Rarities and NAKC "2007 Top Jr Puppy of the Year." This award was not just among Shiloh Shepherds but of all breeds shown in 2007 with their organization, what an amazing accomplishment for Jet and Mustang Shilohs! We think there are big things in store for this wonderful girl.

ISSDC SE
We also want to congratulate our SE sister chapter's smoothie gal Frances on her National Select title. Frances, MtAiry's Francesca Dela Tierra was bred by Nancy Dietz of Mt Airy Shiloh Shepherds and Becky Alhoff of Catoctin Shilohs — both in Maryland — and is owned/handled by Nancy Dietz. Frances is a smooth coated Shiloh Shepherd who has excelled in the show ring taking after her mother Shy (Catoctin's Shining Star) who earned her GV in 2002 and was a NS in 2003 and 2004. Frances is progeny of Shy and Noah, P,B&T's New Beginnings of Sierra, an OTX1, owned by Ridgewood Shilohs (P&C, B&T). I remember seeing Frances for the first time in May 2005 at the Punxsutawney show, taking the show in stride in the pouring raing and cleaning up over the weekend — I'm not sure how Nancy got all of her trophies and ribbons home!
